Renewing a passport in a foreign land can be a crucial aspect of the expatriate experience. Indian citizens who reside in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) must be aware of the process of renewing their passports in their residing country. They must adhere to the passport renewal requirements and guidelines that are set by the Indian Embassy in the UAE.

India passport renewal in Dubai & UAE
The renewal of Indian passports in Dubai and UAE is facilitated by an outsourced service provider, BLS International Services, which has been approved by the Consulate General of India. Once the online application has been completed, applicants must submit the online application form with the required documents at the nearest BLS Center.
A passport in India is reissued under the following circumstances:
- lost/damaged passport
- spouse name deletion/addition
- name change in case of remarried lady
- change of address
Please note that for every case, any changes to be amended in the passport should be accompanied by a request letter & documentary evidence.
Lost Passport
Applicants can also apply for a passport renewal in case they have lost their passport. If the applicants are on a visit visa to UAE, they will be issued an Emergency Certificate with prior approval from EOI to enable his/her return to India, except in exceptional cases.
Requirements
- photocopy of the lost passport, which includes the first, last, and address pages, along with any other endorsement pages and visa page with additional booklets
- if a stamped UAE Residence Visa page/passport copy is not available, prior approval from EOI is required
- copy of the First Information Report (FIR) from the Police authorities and its authentic legal English translation in original.
- annexure F for Lost Passport – mentioning the Circumstances under which the passport was lost.

Damaged passport
Applicants can also apply for a passport renewal in case they have damaged their passport. If the applicants are on a visit visa to UAE, they will be issued an Emergency Certificate with prior approval from EOI to enable his/her return to India, except in exceptional cases.
Requirements
- Request Letter addressed to EOI stating the cause of damage.
- the damaged passport in original with the photocopy of the first, last, and address pages, along with any other endorsement pages and visa page with additional booklets.
- in case of a passport damaged due to a fire, a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) from the Police authorities and its authentic legal English translation
- annexure F for Damage Passport – mentioning the Circumstances under which the passport was damaged.

Spouse name addition
An application for re-issuance of an Indian passport in UAE can be submitted if the applicant wants to add their spouse’s name on the passport.
Requirements
- current Passport with a clear photocopy of the first, last, and address pages
- a passport that expires for more than six months should be supported by a Sworn Affidavit from IVS Global explaining the circumstances and the reasons for late renewal.
- original and a copy of the marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriages, for spouse name addition
- a request letter is required for the spouse name endorsement.

Spouse name deletion
An application for re-issuance of an Indian passport in UAE can be submitted if the applicant wants to remove their spouse’s name on the passport.
Requirements
- current passport with a clear photocopy of the first, last, and address pages
- a divorce decree issued by a competent Court Divorce order from Wakaf Board or a death certificate issued by the Registrar of Deaths is required.
- prior approval from the Indian Embassy.
- a passport that expires for more than six months should be supported by a Sworn Affidavit from IVS Global explaining the circumstances and the reasons for late renewal.

Name change in case of remarried lady
The passport renewal can also be done in the case of a woman who is remarried. They can change their name by adding the name of their new spouse.
Requirements
- current passport with a clear photocopy of the first, last, and address pages, any other endorsement pages, visa page and additional booklets, if any.
- a copy of the spouse’s passport, which includes the first, last, and address pages
- a passport that expires for more than six months should be supported by a Sworn Affidavit from IVS Global explaining the circumstances and the reasons for late renewal.
- a divorce decree issued by a competent Court Divorce order from the Wakaf Board or a death certificate issued by the Registrar of Deaths is required.
- original and a copy of the marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriages
- the name on the marriage certificate should match the passport without any spelling errors.
- deed Poll/Sworn Affidavit, in the prescribed format, signed by the applicant in the presence of the Consular Officer for change of name.
- if changing the signature, then a letter, in the prescribed format, signed by the applicant in the presence of the consular officer

Change of address
An application for re-issuance of the Indian passport can be submitted for changes in address.
Requirements
- current passport with a clear photocopy of the first, last, and address pages
- recent and original electricity/telephone/water/gas bills (in English) not older than three months.
- election Commission Card/e-Aadhar/Aadhar Card to be produced in original at the time of submitting the application.
- original nativity certificate attested by the concerned state home department/online nativity certificate, which can be verified online.
- a passport expired for more than six months should be supported by a duly attested Sworn Affidavit explaining the circumstances and the reasons for late renewal (minor applicants as per parent’s passport only).

How to apply for an Indian passport renewal in Dubai & UAE?
The application form for the renewal can be filled out online through the official website of Indian Embassies and Consulates. However, applicants must submit the application form along with the other supporting documents in person at the nearest BLS center.
To renew your Indian passport in Dubai & UAE, follow the steps given below:
- go to the Passport Seva website
- select the “Register to Apply for Passport Services” option, and fill in all the required details.
- create your login credentials and USER ID for future access
- log in with your USER ID
- click on the “Apply for Ordinary Passport” option on the home page
- select “Reissue” under the “Applying for” category
- fill in the online application form with accurate information
- print the application form
- schedule an appointment at the designated BLS center
- visit the designated BLS center along with the required supporting documents

India passport renewal in Dubai & UAE processing time
The processing time of the passport renewal is decided by The Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi or The Consulate General of India, Dubai. Generally, the processing time for the renewal takes around 5 days for the normal service and around 2 days for the Tatkal service.

The renewal fee for the Indian passport varies based on the applicant’s age and the type of service and booklet. Below are the prices for the Indian passport renewal fee in Dubai and UAE:
