Review: Collapsible Camping Kettle

When we first moved into an RV a few years back, I knew I needed some lightweight and even collapsible items to save on space and weight. I drink coffee every day and in addition, I knew I wanted a solid way to heat water in a contained system.

I was skeptical about this silicone collapsible camping kettle. I was mostly worried about the durability of it. Was the silicone going actually hold up?

First time I used it, I expanded it and immediately saw how strong the silicone was. Not only was it strong, but it was actually kinda hard to collapse back down! Not ‘hard’, but definitely difficult enough to make me confident that it wasn’t just going to collapse in on itself even if there wasn’t water in it.

It weighs just 2.6lbs. So technically, you can throw this in a pack and it wouldn’t be too noticeable at all.

For my specific purposes of using it in the RV, the weight was a bonus, but really, the collapsible part was the winner for me as I could store it just about anywhere when we were in motion.

One of the biggest concerns with this is the silicone, of course. If used over an open flame, it’s extremely important to watch that the flames don’t touch the silicone.

The bottom has a large enough stainless steel bottom that I’m not concerned with flames reaching the silicone on a gas burner, even if it’s one of those camping stoves.

I would be concerned if this was used over a fire, if you were to do that, which is possible, just be sure it’s either far enough away from the flame or it’s a small enough flame that it’s not touching the silicone.

Three years later and I’m still enjoying this kettle. It’s not my everyday kettle now as I don’t live in an RV anymore, but I used it for a solid year and it didn’t break, lose its stiffness, nothing. It was perfect.

Now, because I bought it a few years ago, the design has changed slightly. Mine was just a lid that popped on and off, no big deal, totally fine by me. But now they have lids that have a locking handle. I’m not 100% sure how I feel about it because the handle sticks out a lot. Mine is a lot more compact than what is available now. It’s also a plastic handle which I’m also not too keen on.

However, the lid is now permanently connected to the kettle which is a nice touch, just wish it weren’t so long.

Anyway, as far as durability and longevity goes, this is a winner. I’m really pleased with how this has performed over the years, even when not in use, it hasn’t degraded in anyway.

At around $21, I highly recommend you add the Collapsible Camping Kettle to your collection for camping, RVing, preparedness, off roading and much more!
